Presbycusis is the most common type of Sensorineural Hearing Loss caused by the natural aging of the auditory system. It occurs gradually and initially affects the ability to hear higher pitched (higher frequency) sounds. This affects the speech perception mainly in noise situation and group discussion. Based on the audiometric results, these patients are fitted with advanced hearing aids. Early diagnosis and early fitting of hearing aid is important in view of adaptation, use of residual hearing and to reduce the rate of progression of hearing loss.
